Trail Overview

BLM 192 Road is an intensely rugged and highly technical 1.7-mile trail that aggressively tests the limits of both vehicle and driver. Open to a wide variety of users, including horseback riders, hikers, bicycles, motorbikes, and street-legal vehicles, the adventure starts with a deceivingly moderate introduction. Early sections present uneven, partially washed-out terrain with light to moderate ruts ranging from 2 to 10 inches, though the trail remains generously wide enough to carefully route around the worst initial hazards. At the 0.4-mile mark, you will discover a sprawling, flat dispersed campsite featuring a highly usable turnout area. However, past the 0.5-mile mark, the trail's character shifts dramatically. The ruts aggressively deepen to approximately 16 inches as you face a formidable, steep incline and two demanding hill climbs that introduce a perilous 10-degree off-camber exposure. From here, the route becomes relentlessly technical, requiring meticulous line choice, engaged 4WD, proper gearing, and reliable traction aids. At 1.5 miles, a major, daunting obstacle demands significant approach angles and full, uncompromised off-road capability, swiftly followed by yet another formidable technical challenge at 1.6 miles. The route also serves as an access point to the 187 Trail, which is restricted to non-motorized use. Crucial warning: This unforgiving route becomes extremely hazardous and practically impassable when wet or recently saturated. Attempting this trail during or immediately after a rainstorm guarantees a dangerous loss of traction on the steep, washed-out slopes.

Difficulty

This highly technical and physically demanding trail earns a severe level 5 difficulty rating due to its relentlessly aggressive terrain in the later sections. While the first half features manageable 2- to 10-inch ruts, the trail quickly escalates to present punishing 16-inch trenches, steep hill climbs, and intimidating 10-degree off-camber exposures. At the 1.5 and 1.6-mile marks, drivers must conquer major, complex obstacles that require exceptional approach angles, locked 4WD, specialized off-road gearing, and highly experienced line selection. Furthermore, the profoundly washed-out surfaces make the trail exceptionally hazardous and completely impassable during wet conditions, requiring strict adherence to dry-weather travel only.
