Trail Overview

The overall environment of BLM 191 is a wide-open, sun-drenched desert landscape featuring rolling, arid hills and beautiful distant mountain views. This sprawling route takes you through a sweeping expanse of dry, brush-dotted terrain under massive, bright blue skies. Near the very beginning of the journey, you will find a conveniently located dispersed campsite that is perfect for pitching a tent or taking a break. As you navigate the dusty, winding path, it is essential to stay highly aware of your surroundings, as this shared-use trail is open to horseback riders, bicyclists, side-by-sides, and all street-legal vehicles. Furthermore, this main route frequently intersects with a vast network of popular motorcycle trails, so please drive carefully and always keep a sharp, cautious eye out for oncoming riders who may be crossing your path.

Difficulty

The trail surface primarily consists of dry, packed desert dirt heavily scarred by deep, uneven ruts and challenging cross-ditch washouts. Early sections of the drive feature prominent, continuous ruts ranging from 2 to 12 inches deep, and around the 0.2-mile mark, you will navigate an obstacle characterized by 6-to-8-inch trenches and a noticeable 10-degree off-camber stretch that will tilt your vehicle sideways. Further along, near 0.8 miles, a much steeper obstacle requires 16 to 18 inches of approach clearance and the active use of all-wheel or four-wheel drive to safely conquer the sudden incline. To protect your vehicle's undercarriage and front bumper, straddle the deepest dirt crevices where possible, maintain a slow, highly controlled momentum, and carefully pick your lines over the steep, rutted hillsides shown in the photos.
