Trail Overview
This spur route branches off of Hamilton Creek and quickly transitions into a more remote forest setting. Unlike the surrounding gravel roads, this trail is primarily dirt-based with scattered gravel and natural forest debris, giving it a more primitive feel. The route winds through a mixture of hardwoods and pines, offering a quieter and more secluded experience than the nearby county-maintained roads.
After passing by Mullins Loop, the character of the trail changes noticeably. Moss-covered rocks, exposed stone, and scattered boulders begin appearing throughout the forest, creating a landscape that feels less maintained and more natural. The trail remains relatively easy to navigate, but the softer dirt surface can become slick after periods of rain.
The route continues through dense timber before reaching a wide turnaround area. Beyond this point, a fallen tree completely blocks the trail, preventing further travel. Visitors will need to turn around and return the way they came. This is a good choice for those looking to explore deeper into the forest without encountering major obstacles or technical terrain.

The route presents no significant obstacles, steep grades, or water crossings. The primary considerations are the dirt surface, occasional loose rocks, and the narrower trail corridor. Most stock high-clearance vehicles can travel the route without issue.
History
The Ouachita National Forest was established in 1907 and is recognized as the oldest national forest in the southern United States. Many roads found throughout the forest today originated as logging, timber management, fire access, or resource extraction routes before becoming part of the modern Forest Service road network. Forest management remains an important part of the landscape, and travelers may encounter evidence of prescribed burns, timber thinning, and habitat restoration efforts. The Ouachita Mountains themselves are among the oldest mountain ranges in North America and are notable for their unique east-west orientation.
