Sandy Gate Wash Trail

This trail begins at a closed gate off County Road 15. Please leave the gate as you found it. A State Trust Land Permit is required, and portions of the surrounding area contain private property. Camping is permitted in designated areas nearby. The route follows a pleasant full-width dirt two-track surrounded by desert creosote and natural grasses. Approximately half a mile from the start, the trail passes an eroded ditch and a washout area, creating a short off-camber section. Despite the erosion, most high-clearance 2WD vehicles should have no difficulty navigating this obstacle. As the trail approaches its end, larger trees become more prevalent, and the route drops into a sandy wash where 4WD may be beneficial, especially in softer conditions. This wash section provides a fun opportunity to play in the sand before reaching the trail's end. Just before the fence at the end, a right turn connects travelers to the next segment of the trail. Overall, this is an easy and scenic route with minor erosion features and a short sandy wash section, making it an enjoyable drive for those exploring the surrounding desert landscape.
