Trail Overview
FS 205B is a point-to-point route originating off FS 205 near the old corral and running the full length to Buffalo Ranch Road on the Great Western Trail. The trail offers a diverse and scenic journey through varied terrain and vegetation, making it one of the more visually rewarding routes in the area. The trail begins flat before climbing and curving up to the ridgeline. One rocky section punctuates the ascent — nothing highly technical, but potentially impassable in poor weather conditions. Upon reaching the top, the trail straightens and crosses a wider open section before transitioning into a rutted but manageable stretch, passable with high clearance. Downed trees and brush may be encountered along the way. The route then passes through a beautiful aspen grove, opens up to sweeping views across neighboring ridgelines, winds through a cluster of young new-growth pines, and concludes with another picturesque aspen section — providing a stunning variety of forest scenery throughout. Best suited for high-clearance vehicles. 4WD recommended, particularly on the rocky climb and rutted sections. Not advised in wet or inclement weather.
