Trail Overview
Cow Pen Ridge is a highly natural, narrow shelf-road trail that presents a range of obstacles, including washouts, ruts, ledges, exposed rocks, and a sustained, steep climb through mountainous terrain on state trust land. A permit is required. The route begins at the end of Trail 30016 and passes through a gated section near a cattle area—caution is advised, as livestock, including potentially aggressive bulls, may be present. Watch for oncoming traffic, be prepared to back up a shelf road. This point-to-point trail continues to a junction at the top of the climb, where it connects to another route on the left and a moto track to the right. Upon reaching the crest, travelers are rewarded with expansive views of the Mountains and Lake Pleasant way off into the distance. Due to the terrain and exposure, high clearance 4WD vehicles are strongly recommended. The trail is not advised during inclement weather or for most 2WD vehicles. No designated camping areas were identified along the route.
