Trail Overview

This off-road route begins just off Highway 22, passing through an open barbed-wire gate and immediately into 2 to 3 inches of soft sand along a narrow track bordered by mid-height desert vegetation and the occasional towering cordon cactus. The sandy sections are brief, quickly giving way to a series of salt flats--first a short stretch, then a longer one--where the terrain becomes as smooth as pavement and offers an effortless, scenic drive when dry. However, conditions can change rapidly with rain, weather shifts, or exceptionally high tides, so always proceed with caution. After navigating around three distinct salt flat sections, the trail concludes at a quiet area ideal for camping and intersects with another onX trail, Ruta Hermosa, which is highly recommended for further exploration.

Difficulty

While the first section of this route includes 2 to 3 inches of soft sand, 4WD is typically not necessary. However, the ability to air down your tires is always recommended in this terrain. Approximately three-quarters of the trail crosses salt flats, which, even in dry conditions, may show signs of standing water. Use caution--these areas can quickly become impassable due to storms or unusually high tides, so always check conditions before proceeding.
