Trail Overview
This scenic off-road trail offers a unique blend of coastal and desert landscapes as it winds along the mangroves near Baja's coastal waterways. Beginning at the picturesque onX route *Ruta Hermosa*, the trail transitions inland, cutting through 2 to 4 inches of soft sand and mid-height desert vegetation while tracing the outer edges of the mangrove ecosystem. Although direct water views are limited along the main path, several subtle offshoots--particularly those leading toward the darker areas on satellite maps--reveal hidden gems by the water. Notable spurs include a fork to the left at an intersection where the trail goes right and a left turn at the end of an expansive salt flat where the trail continues straight. From there, the trail narrows into a single-vehicle track, continuing through scattered salt flats and open desert before concluding at a broad, sunbaked basin of salt. Remote, quiet, and visually diverse, this route is perfect for adventurers seeking Baja's lesser-known coastal corridors.
Difficulty
While this trail is not particularly technical, a 4WD vehicle is recommended, along with the ability to air down your tires, as much of the route crosses narrow desert sections with 2 to 5 inches of soft sand. Keep a close eye on tide charts--portions of the trail traverse salt flats and low-lying areas that can flood during king tides, potentially making the route impassable.
