Trail Overview
This off-road route begins at the south-to-north connector between Highway 22 and Puerto Adolfo Lopez Mateos, offering a straightforward, easy drive suitable for any vehicle with moderate ground clearance and either 2WD or 4WD. The trail is remarkably straight with only a thin layer of sand--typically no more than an inch or two--making for a smooth and relaxed crossing. It passes through classic mid-height desert vegetation, with mild elevation changes that add a touch of variety to the otherwise linear path. As you near the junction leading toward the Florida Peninsula, the terrain opens up to reveal glimpses of inland waterways bordered by dense mangroves. Use caution in this coastal zone, as tidal shifts can quickly transform dry sections into wet, muddy ground.
Difficulty
This is an easy trail suitable for any vehicle with adequate ground clearance; however, it's essential to check tide charts before entering the lowland section at the end of the route. During high tide, water levels can rise significantly, flooding portions of the road and making travel more difficult or impassable.
