There and Back
This flat, low-elevation route begins near the River Bend Farm Visitor Center in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. From the visitor center, follow the Towpath Trail south toward the Stanley Woolen Mill site. The trail closely parallels the historic Blackstone Canal, passing remnants of 19th-century water infrastructure including locks, spillways, and gates. Hikers can also follow the Towpath Trail north to the Stone Arch Bridge, where additional parking and trail access are available, before either retracing their steps or completing the route by ending at the northern or southern access point.
The route stays mostly level and shaded, with interpretive signage and views of the Blackstone River along several sections. Side trails offer alternate paths and short spurs. While generally well maintained, some areas may become muddy or overgrown after rain. No permit is required, but use caution where the trail narrows near water. This route offers a quiet riverside walk with glimpses into the Blackstone Canal’s 19th-century history.
