This easy route begins at the Millville Road parking area on the southern edge of Mendon Town Forest, following Shirley’s Trail into a quiet woodland setting. After a short distance, the route connects to Taft Trail, passing the remnants of historic structures like the Thompson Taft homestead and old mill foundations. At trail marker 29, continue north for a short distance on Popsy Trail. Turn right onto Asylum Trail, then left onto Bobcat Trail to complete a scenic circuit through mixed forest and wetland terrain. Reconnect with Asylum Trail, follow it south briefly, then rejoin Taft Trail to return to the trailhead. Boardwalks span wetter sections, though seasonal muddy spots may still be present—especially after rainfall or snowmelt.
This route is open year-round to hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and snowshoers. Stay alert for seasonal hunting activity and wear blaze orange during fall and winter months. The trail borders private property in some areas—remain on the established path. With gentle grades, historical landmarks, and a peaceful forest setting, this is a quiet and accessible day hike in central Massachusetts.
