Description
The Mud Pond Conservation Area Trails begin at a small parking area off South Road in Williston and offer several short routes through a quiet natural area. From the trailhead, hikers can follow wide, well-maintained paths , with wooden boardwalks providing access through sensitive boggy terrain. A gentle climb leads through northern hardwood forest, where intersections are clearly marked and distances between junctions remain short. Several side trails branch toward viewpoints overlooking Mud Pond, a peaceful waterbody surrounded by forest and home to a range of wildlife including frogs, songbirds, and small mammals. Although the trails remain accessible year-round, spring and late fall conditions can be muddy or icy. Most trails are suitable for families or newer hikers, though sturdy footwear and tick precautions are recommended. The route’s proximity to town and mix of terrain make it a convenient option for day hikes near Burlington.
