Loop
Preston Loop begins and ends at the Cochran Ski Center. The loop is also accessible from Cochran Rd, but parking is restricted. The route follows the Ravine and Connector trails to Preston Loop, weaving through mature hardwoods and softwoods over moderately rugged terrain with occasional rocky and root-filled sections. Along the way, several short spur trails provide optional detours, and intermittent clearings offer partial views toward Camel’s Hump. Seasonal streams and small ponds appear throughout, but water is not reliable or drinkable without treatment.
The route gradually climbs and descends through shaded forest with minimal signage—staying alert at trail junctions is advised. Wildlife sightings are common, including deer and a variety of songbirds. While popular with trail runners and mountain bikers, the trail generally sees light foot traffic. Use caution in wet conditions, as parts of the route become slick and erosion-prone. This trail offers a quiet and accessible day hike close to Burlington with a peaceful, backwoods feel.
