Loop
The Mother’s Day Loop begins and ends at the Cochran Ski Area just outside Richmond, VT. From the trailhead, follow the Mother’s Day Trail uphill through mixed hardwood forest. The route climbs steadily with stretches of exposed roots and occasional loose footing—trekking poles are helpful, especially after rain. After reaching the upper ridgeline, continue south along a wooded path with glimpses of the Winooski River Valley to the west. Intermittent viewpoints and vibrant foliage in fall make this section a highlight.
This route uses AC/DC and Skully's Trails to make a loop, with connecting trails offering some variety. The trail passes through land managed by Cochran Ski Area, which allows non-motorized access outside of ski season. There are no reliable water sources on route, and ticks can be active in warmer months. This moderate half-day route rewards hikers with a quiet forest experience close to town and a variety of terrain.
