This quiet forest route begins just off Hwy. 20 west of downtown Cazenovia and traces a scenic loop through the Fairchild Hill and Burlingame area. From the trailhead, follow the main path into a mixed hardwood forest, where the route climbs gently to the ridgeline. At a few open points along the higher terrain, hikers are rewarded with partial views of Cazenovia Lake through the trees.
Several intersecting paths appear along the way—stay on the main trail at Y-intersections and turn right at the prominent junction near the route’s halfway point to begin the return. Expect moderate elevation changes, uneven footing, and seasonal trail conditions such as mud or fallen leaves. Wildlife is common, especially deer and songbirds, and dogs are welcome on leash. With no reliable water sources, plan to carry all needed water. This is a great option for casual day hikes in Central New York’s wooded terrain, offering a peaceful setting close to town.
