The Brookside to Old Growth route begins at Brookside Lane and travels through a mix of second-growth and old-growth hardwood forest managed by New York State Parks. From the trailhead, follow the small path to enter dense woodland. At the first junction, veer right to begin the loop section, which leads into one of the region’s few remaining pockets of old-growth forest. Towering tulip trees and sugar maples dominate the canopy here, some reaching impressive size. Interpretive signs provide background on the forest’s ecology and history.
The trail continues on relatively flat terrain with a few gentle undulations. In spring and early summer, wildflowers line the path, and wildlife sightings—such as white-tailed deer or barred owls—are common. After completing the loop, rejoin the initial trail and retrace your steps to Brookside Lane. This quiet route offers a short, peaceful outing ideal for trail runners, dog walkers, and hikers looking for a forested escape without significant elevation gain.
