There and Back
The Bog Pond Trail begins from Victory Hill Road in Vermont’s Victory Basin Wildlife Management Area, winding through dense spruce-fir forest and remote wetlands toward a scenic overlook above Bog Pond. The route follows an old woods road and may be hard to follow in places, especially during the growing season when vegetation can overtake the path. Stay alert for faint tread and limited signage. After a short distance, the trail enters a boreal lowland rich in ecological diversity; watch for rare songbirds, waterfowl, and carnivorous plants along the way.
As the terrain flattens, continue straight through open wetland clearings until reaching a rise near the pond’s edge. The overlook offers quiet views across the still water, with potential moose sightings in early morning or evening. Return along the same route, keeping an eye out for changing trail conditions. Expect muddy or flooded areas, especially during spring or after heavy rain. This route is best suited for day hikers seeking solitude, birding, and low-elevation exploration in one of Vermont’s most unique backcountry landscapes.
