Begin on the Gardens Trail at the main parking area for Taconic Mountains Ramble State Park near 321 St. Johns Road in Hubbardton, Vermont. From the lot, the route follows marked paths past the Japanese Garden, then east across Monument Hill Road to the far half of the preserve. The trail winds through forested terrain on easy-to-moderate grades, with some uneven footing and occasional muddy sections after rain. After reaching the falls, hikers can return on the Falls Trail or loop around on the Woods Trail.
Along the way, the trail passes quiet stretches of hardwood forest and small seasonal streams. A short side path leads to a Japanese-style garden featuring a pond, ornamental plantings, and stonework—an unexpected highlight in the Vermont woods. While the route itself is mostly wooded, nearby trails offer expansive views of the Taconic Mountains. This is a peaceful option for day hikes in the Taconic Range, especially during peak fall foliage.
