Loop
The Bomoseen Loop Trail begins near the Bomoseen State Park campground. This moderate route winds through dense mixed hardwood forest and passes several junctions—follow signage to stay on the main loop. Early on, the trail ascends gently to reach scenic overlooks of Lake Bomoseen and, farther along, Glen Lake. Near the midway point, hikers encounter the ruins of historic slate quarries, where loose rock and uneven footing may require extra caution. Autumn offers especially vibrant foliage along this section.
Continuing through rolling terrain, the route completes its loop by reconnecting with the trailhead near the campground. While water views are plentiful, there are no potable water sources along the trail—come prepared. This area is also known for ticks and muddy conditions after rain. The trail is best hiked from late spring through mid-fall, with snowshoeing possible in winter. The route’s scenic lakes, forest canopy, and quiet quarry remnants offer a peaceful hiking experience in western Vermont.
