There and Back
The route to Moscow Pond begins at the Glen Lake Trailhead in Bomoseen State Park. From the parking area, follow the trail along the shoreline of Glen Lake, passing through mixed hardwood forest with intermittent views of the water. Continue as the path gradually gains elevation and bends northward. This section is less-traveled and can be overgrown—expect narrow tread, occasional blowdowns, and brushy segments.
After a steady but moderate climb, the trail descends gently toward the shore of Moscow Pond. Continue a short distance to reach Beaver Pond. Both ponds are quiet and secluded, surrounded by dense forest and frequented by loons, deer, and beavers. The route presented here is an out-and-back to the ponds, but those looking for more distance can continue on Glen Lake Trail to Half Moon Pond State Park. This is a solid choice for day hikes in central Vermont, especially during peak fall colors when the forest is vibrant and crowds are minimal.
