Loop
The Shaw Mountain Loop begins and ends off Money Hole Road within the Shaw Mountain Natural Area. This moderate hiking route travels through mixed hardwood forest, climbing steadily to a hilltop with broad views west toward the Champlain Valley and Adirondack peaks. Early in the route, the trail ascends through rocky, occasionally uneven terrain, suitable for intermediate hikers accustomed to moderate elevation gain.
The forest opens in places, offering birding opportunities and the chance to spot deer or wild turkey. The return route descends gently through dense woods, with some overgrown stretches common in late summer. The entire route is foot-traffic only, and dogs are not permitted. There are no reliable water sources, so bring all necessary supplies. This trail is best tackled between late spring and mid-fall, when conditions are dry and the path is more defined. The route rewards hikers with solitude, varied terrain, and sweeping high-elevation views.
