There and Back
Starting from the parking area on VT 105, the trail climbs to the northeast over some schist(?) slabs. It climbs to a junction with a side trail to Carleton Mountain Lookout. This short little side trail offers views, when it's not covered with rain clouds. The wooded summit of Carleton Mountain is a little bit further from this junction to the north on the trail. The trail continues with some ups and downs over the ridgetop. The northern terminus of the trail ends at the boundary marker/Journey's End Trail. If you're hiking the Long Trail, this will either be your start or finish. If you're exiting the trail via Journey's End Trail, it will take you 1.4 miles down to the parking at Journey's End Road. If you're feeling adventurous and want to continue into Canada, hike back to the trail crossing at VT 105, take VT 105 to 105A into East Richford, and the Les Sentiers de L'estrie (trail) starts on the Chemin de la vallee-Missiquoi (road).
