The route begins at the Promised Land Trailhead on the north side of Napeague State Park and follows a sandy path through maritime forest and pitch pine barrens. Early in the route, the trail passes through a mix of coastal scrub and open pine glades before curving toward the north. Occasional openings in the trees reveal views of Napeague Bay to the north and the Atlantic dunes to the south.
As the route continues, hikers encounter stretches of soft sand and low, rolling terrain typical of Long Island’s East End. Side paths and old woods roads branch off periodically—stay on the main marked route to complete the circuit. Wildlife is abundant here; ospreys often circle overhead, and fox tracks are common along the sandy sections.
The route returns to the Promised Land Trailhead through a shaded corridor of pine and oak. The experience offers a quiet coastal walk with glimpses of the surrounding bay and dunes—an easy, scenic day hike in Napeague State Park.
