There and Back
The Mount Moosalamoo Trail begins at the Moosalamoo Campground Trailhead and climbs steadily through a mix of hardwood forest and evergreens toward the summit of Mount Moosalamoo. From the trailhead, follow the well-marked path as it ascends the western slopes of the Moosalamoo Range. Early sections pass through dense woods with intermittent seasonal stream crossings near the start—streams may run dry by mid-summer, so plan ahead for water.
Around halfway up, the trail becomes steeper and rockier, with occasional switchbacks and exposed roots. Look for signs of moose activity in the upper forest and keep an eye out for birds along the canopy. Near the top, the forest thins slightly before opening up to limited but rewarding views south and west, including glimpses of Lake Dunmore and the Green Mountains. Return along the same route.
This moderate route offers a quiet, shaded ascent with a scenic summit and good wildlife viewing opportunities.
