The Romance Mountain Trail begins near the Blueberry Inn trailhead, just off Romance Mountain Road. From the trailhead, the route climbs steadily through a dense hardwood forest, where early sections are lined with mossy rocks and intermittent roots. The trail crosses multiple seasonal brooks in the first mile, which typically flow through early summer.
Roughly halfway up, hikers begin a more pronounced climb up the mountain’s western flank. The route levels off once it turns south on Halfdan Kuhnle, remaining within forest cover as it winds along the slopes. The trail descends and connects with Hogback Mountain, which leads to an overlook across the Green Mountains, with clear views on a dry day. Moose sightings are occasionally reported in this upper section, especially near dawn or dusk. This route is best hiked from late spring to early fall, with peak colors in early October and limited water availability in late summer.
