This moderate route begins and ends at the Goshen Trailhead in Vermont’s Green Mountain National Forest. From the trailhead, follow the main path west through a quiet stretch of hardwood forest. The forest includes a mix of maple, birch, and beech, with occasional glimpses through the trees. Before long, the path reaches Silver Lake, a broad, serene body of water bordered by forested slopes. From here, hikers can turn in either direction to begin the loop, following the lakeshore for views, water access, or spots for a quiet break.
The trail eventually loops back through similar terrain, reconnecting with the outbound path and returning to the Goshen Trailhead. Wildlife sightings are possible along the route, especially moose and black bear, so overnight hikers should follow bear-aware practices. Fall is a particularly rewarding time to hike here, with bright foliage and crisp air enhancing the forested scenery.
