Point to Point
The trail begins at Overlook Trailhead in Jamaica State Park. This moderate route climbs steadily through dense hardwood forest, offering a shaded and peaceful ascent. About halfway up, the trail steepens with short, uneven pitches and scattered roots, requiring sure footing in wet conditions. Continue uphill until reaching the open ledge viewpoint overlooking the West River Valley, a rewarding destination during peak fall foliage.
At this point you can return the way you came or continue to connect with the West River Trail to return. While no water sources are found along the trail, facilities are available within the state park. Dogs are welcome on leash. Watch for ticks in warmer months and be cautious of slippery sections after rain. The overlook makes this one of the best short hikes in southern Vermont for expansive views and autumn color.
