The trail to Paul’s Ledges begins at the Athens Trailhead just off VT Route 35. From the trailhead, follow the narrow path as it winds uphill through dense woods, gaining elevation with short, steep pitches and occasional rocky footing. After a moderate ascent, the route reaches a wooded ridge before continuing to the final approach toward Paul’s Ledges. Expect light scrambling and minor exposure near the ledge area.
At the top, hikers are rewarded with broad views across the Green Mountains from a high perch above the forest canopy. Moose, barred owls, and porcupines are occasionally spotted along the trail. This is a non-motorized route open to hikers and leashed dogs, with no water available—plan to bring all necessary supplies. Though accessible from spring through fall, snowshoes are recommended in winter, and the trail is not maintained during snowy months. Paul’s Ledges offers a peaceful destination with classic Vermont scenery.
