Point to Point
This point-to-point route begins at the Putney Mountain Road Trailhead and climbs gradually along Windmill Ridge toward Putney Mountain. The trail follows a well-defined path through conserved land managed by the Windmill Hill Pinnacle Association and the Putney Mountain Association. After a short initial ascent, the route levels out across a ridgeline shaded by mixed hardwoods. Around halfway in, stay right at a signed junction to remain on the main route toward the summit.
As the trail progresses, hikers will pass through wildlife corridors that support moose, deer, and migrating raptors—especially visible during fall. Seasonal brooks appear along the way, but water is not reliably available without treatment. The final approach to Putney Mountain climbs steadily before reaching an open, grassy summit offering expansive views of southern Vermont and the Connecticut River Valley.
This route is best from late spring through fall, though it’s accessible for snowshoeing in winter. Expect muddy stretches in early spring and slippery footing after rain.
