There and Back
The Tiny Pond Trail begins at an informal pull-off along Vermont Route 100 and heads west into the heart of the Tiny Pond Wildlife Management Area. The route follows an unmarked path through mixed hardwood and spruce forest, climbing gradually as it skirts seasonal streams and wetland edges. Vegetation may encroach on the trail, and downed logs or muddy sections are common, particularly after rain. Navigation can be challenging—carry a map and compass or reliable GPS.
Around halfway in, the trail levels off before reaching Tiny Pond, a quiet backcountry destination ringed by forest and frequented by moose, beavers, and loons. The pond offers opportunities for primitive camping and wildlife viewing, with no amenities or fires permitted. This route is best hiked from late spring through fall, when foliage colors enhance the experience and water levels support stream crossings. The final reward is a peaceful shoreline vista that feels far removed from nearby roads.
