The Shrewsbury Peak Trail begins from the trailhead on CCC Road and climbs steadily through mixed hardwood and spruce forest. The first stretch follows a moderate grade, crossing a couple of seasonal streams before steepening as it gains elevation. The route grows rockier and more rugged as it nears the ridgeline, requiring careful footing in steeper sections.
The trail ends at the summit of Shrewsbury Peak, where wide-ranging views open toward Killington, the Cold River Valley, and the rolling Green Mountains. From the peak, hikers can return on the same trail or descend on Black Swamp Trail to make a much longer loop. This less-traveled route offers a quieter alternative to nearby Long Trail summits, with the reward of expansive vistas from one of Vermont’s higher peaks.
