There and Back
The Healdville Trail begins at a small trailhead off Station Road and climbs steadily through the dense hardwood forests of the Green Mountain National Forest. From the outset, the route ascends a ridgeline, gaining elevation at a steady pace along a well-worn footpath. After a short distance, the trail crosses several seasonal drainages, which are often dry late in summer, and continues through a mixed forest of maple, birch, and beech. About halfway up, hikers pass a few mossy rock outcrops and clearings where wildlife sightings are common.
At a marked junction near the top, the trail angles left for the final push toward Ludlow Mountain’s summit, also known as Okemo Mountain. The route ends at the summit fire tower, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding Green Mountains, particularly striking during fall foliage. On a clear day, views stretch as far as the White Mountains. This is a straightforward hike with a consistent uphill grade, best suited for day hikers looking for a rewarding climb in southern Vermont.
