The Hemlock Trail in Saratoga Spa State Park forms a short, easy route through a mixed forest of hemlock and white pine. Starting from the parking area off Crescent Ave, the trail quickly enters a shaded woodland with gentle grades and wide tread. Interpretive signs along the way highlight the park’s natural and cultural history, making this a good choice for families or casual hikers. At a Y-intersection early in the route, stay left to follow the trail clockwise, looping past quiet forest clearings and occasional glimpses of deer or songbirds. After the loop closes, retrace a short segment back to the trailhead.
This is a low-elevation route with minimal elevation gain, but the trail may be muddy in sections after heavy rain. While it’s accessible year-round, spring through fall offers the driest conditions and best footing. There are no water sources on trail, though potable water is available near park buildings. The easy grades, interpretive features, and peaceful setting make this one of the more approachable day hikes in Saratoga Spa State Park.
