Description
Starting at the Three Ponds Trailhead off VT Route 122, this route follows a well-marked forest path past a series of peaceful water features—Round Pond, Long Pond, and Mud Pond. The trail weaves through mixed hardwood forest with modest elevation gain, offering the chance to spot moose, beaver activity, and small waterfall outlets between the ponds. On the return trip, turn right at the junction to climb the summit loop, navigating some rockier terrain before reaching a high point with wide, panoramic views over the surrounding hills and valleys. After taking in the summit vistas, continue along the loop to reconnect with the main trail and retrace your steps to the trailhead. While generally moderate, the route includes uneven footing and can be muddy or buggy during the summer. Natural water sources are available, but all water should be filtered or treated. This route is best enjoyed from late spring through fall, offering a rewarding mix of calm waters and elevated views.
