There and Back
The Oak Ridge to Mount Moosalamoo route begins at the Oak Ridge Trailhead near Forest Road 59 in Vermont’s Green Mountain National Forest. The route climbs steadily through dense hardwood forest, gaining elevation along a well-defined singletrack. Early on, hikers cross intermittent streams and pass seasonal seeps—these can be useful water sources in spring but may dry up later in the summer.
The trail becomes steeper as it ascends the ridge, with occasional rock steps and roots underfoot. Near the summit, the forest thins and opens to partial views. From the top, broad vistas stretch across the Champlain Valley, with glimpses of Lake Dunmore and the surrounding Green Mountains. This is a quieter alternative to busier trails in the Moosalamoo region, offering a moderately strenuous hike through classic New England forest with rewarding summit views.
