This route begins at the Leicester Hollow Trailhead, heading north into a dense hardwood forest filled with ferns, seasonal streams, and occasional muddy sections. The route starts with an ascent of Chandler Ridge. The climb is steady and rocky in places, but rewards hikers with panoramic views through breaks in the trees along the ridgeline. Pass Oak Hill and continue following the Chandler Ridge Trail north as it descends toward Silver Lake.
At Silver Lake, enjoy shoreline hiking with scenic views and optional swimming or a lunch break near the designated camping area. From the lake’s southern end, pick up the Leicester Hollow Trail heading south. The route follows an old carriage road through a narrow, fern-covered valley with occasional stream crossings and evidence of past washouts. Expect uneven footing and wet trail conditions in sections as you continue back toward the trailhead. This route offers a rewarding mix of ridgeline vistas, quiet forest walking, and lakeside terrain, ideal for hikers looking for a full-day adventure in the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area.
