Loop
The Leadmine and Raven Rookery Trail Loop begins from the trailhead on Old Sturbridge Village Road in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, and explores a scenic stretch of protected land within the Leadmine Mountain Wildlife Conservation Easement. Start by heading west on Arbutus Park Trail, then veer right at the Y-intersection. Continue south as the route transitions into Seven Ridges Trail, weaving through mixed hardwood and pine forest. Stay on this path until reaching the junction with The Link Trail, then turn right. At the next junction, take another right onto Leadmine Trail.
Leadmine Trail gradually curves north before turning east and becoming Mountain Laurel Trail, where the forest opens up briefly near wetlands and seasonal stream crossings. From here, connect with Raven Rookery Trail and take a short left before turning left again onto Pogus Village Trail. Complete the route by reconnecting with Arbutus Park Trail, which leads directly back to the trailhead. This moderate route includes rolling terrain, muddy stretches after rain, and occasional slick roots or rocks. It’s well-suited for hikers seeking quiet day hikes in central Massachusetts with opportunities for birding, wildlife viewing, and seasonal color. Wear high-visibility clothing during hunting season, and carry navigation when hiking during wetter months.
