Loop
Begin this moderate hiking route from the main parking area at Wells State Park, walking a short distance northwest along the main park road before turning onto the red-blazed North Trail. The trail climbs gradually through a forested landscape of hardwoods and pines, crossing rugged terrain with rocky sections and exposed roots. Stay right to continue on the North Trail, or take a short detour to Carpenter Rocks for a scenic overlook above Walker Pond.
Continue on the North Trail as it transitions to the white-blazed South Trail. The return descent follows gentler grades through mixed woods, with occasional filtered views toward Walker Pond. Keep left at the final junction to reconnect with the park road, which leads back to the parking area. This quiet route offers moderate elevation changes, well-marked trails, and the option to enjoy a rewarding viewpoint along the way.
