The Dean Pond Loop begins and ends near the parking area at the Dean Pond Recreation Area off Dean Pond Road in Brimfield State Forest. This easy route forms a short circuit around the shoreline of Dean Pond, offering casual walking through mixed forest and occasional views across the water. From the parking area, follow the trail north as it skirts the pond’s edge. Some stretches may feel narrow or slightly overgrown, especially near the shoreline, so use caution along muddy or brushy sections. The path continues around the pond, crosses a short bridge, and briefly connects with the forest headquarters parking area before returning to the starting point.
This mostly flat route is open year-round for hiking, walking, and mountain biking. Dogs are permitted on leash. Expect a quiet, low-traffic experience with chances to see birds and wildlife typical of Central Massachusetts state forests. The adjacent Dean Pond Recreation Area includes a beach, picnic areas, and seasonal restrooms. This is a convenient option for a peaceful walk with easy access to water and facilities.
