The Peaked Mountain Trail begins at a marked trailhead off Butler Road in Monson, MA, with a gravel parking area managed by The Trustees of Reservations. From the trailhead, head east on Roslyn’s Turnpike, then turn right onto the West Rock Trail. After a steady climb through mixed hardwood forest, the trail passes the Valley View overlook—a rocky outcrop with early views to the south and west. Continue uphill on a steeper, rockier section to reach the open summit clearing. The high point offers expansive views across central Massachusetts, with distant sightlines to Mt. Wachusett, Mt. Monadnock, and Connecticut’s Shenipsit State Forest.
To descend, follow the trail down from the summit and keep right at the first junction. Turn left onto Bernie Ave to reconnect with Roslyn’s Turnpike and return to the parking area. Although relatively short, this route includes uneven terrain and moderately strenuous climbs. The trail is open year-round and allows leashed dogs.
