This moderate well-marked hiking route begins at the parking area on Wallis Street in Douglas, MA, and forms a scenic loop through Douglas State Forest. From the trailhead, follow the Ridge Trail to the south, passing through mature forest and gently rolling terrain. Shortly after setting out, the optional Wallis Pond Loop Trail branches off to the right and can be explored at the beginning or end of the route. A short distance later, turn right onto the Wallis Pond Trail to reach the pond’s peaceful shoreline. Continue along the trail for serene water views and chances to spot wildlife before linking up with the Reservoir Trail to the left. This section winds through mixed woodland and wetland habitat, with occasional muddy or root-filled patches. After passing additional small ponds, the Reservoir Trail reconnects with the Ridge Trail. Turn left to take the Ridge Trail back to the starting point. This route offers year-round access and is ideal for day hikes in central Massachusetts.
