Description
Begin at the Gore Mountain Trailhead on VT‑114 near Norton Pond and follow the trail up Gore Mountain’s forested slopes. The trail climbs steadily through northern hardwood–conifer forest, crossing occasional seasonal brooks and muddy sections. As you gain elevation, the route steepens and transitions to rougher tread with rocky segments and potential blowdowns. Near the summit, you’ll reach a high, forested ridgeline with limited but wild views and a small cabin ruin near the high point. Return along the same route, retracing your steps back over Gore Mountain’s summit. This point-to-point route traverses remote terrain with little cell coverage, making reliable navigation tools essential. The remote setting, rugged forest, and high chance of wildlife encounters make this a rewarding route for experienced backcountry hikers.
