Montauk Point Loop

This easy route starts at the parking area near the Montauk Point Lighthouse, at the eastern tip of Long Island. From the trailhead, the route follows a series of clearly marked paths through Montauk Point State Park, passing through maritime forest, coastal grasslands, and along scenic ocean bluffs. Hikers typically travel clockwise, beginning with the shoreline segment that offers expansive views of the Atlantic and potential sightings of seabirds and wintering seals. Be cautious near eroded cliff edges, especially after storms or during icy winter conditions. After traversing the coast, the route bends inland through shaded forest dominated by pitch pine and oak.
