Big Moose Mountain Trail

This route begins and ends at the Big Moose Mountain trailhead, after reaching the summit of Big Moose Mountain. Follow the blue-blazed trail as it ascends gradually through a northern hardwood forest. At 1.3 miles, pass a short spur trail on the right leading to a historic fire warden's cabin. Beyond the cabin, the grade steepens significantly as the trail climbs over rugged, rocky terrain. At 1.5 miles, pass by a spur trail on the left, leading to a scenic overlook. Keep right and climb the final 0.5 miles over steep stone steps and exposed bedrock to reach the summit, which features panoramic views of Moosehead Lake. Retrace your steps to return to the trailhead.
