Description
This route starts and ends at a signed access point along the ITS-87 snowmobile trail corridor, reached by driving up the corridor from its junction with Heald Pond Road. From the access point, follow an overgrown logging road briefly before turning sharply right at a cairn and arrow into low spruce forest interspersed with loose rock, climbing steeply. Continue to the junction with the West Trail at around 1.1 miles, marked by a small stone cairn; turn right for the final 0.3 miles to the summit. This stretch is moderately steep with some rock scrambling, including one short section that dips down an eroded bank before climbing again. Near the top, the trail crosses an open gravel-and-sand shelf with wide views before reaching the summit, where a radio tower, solar panels, and a helicopter pad share the rocky top. Retrace the same trail back to the snowmobile trail access point for a round trip of about 2.8 miles, gaining roughly 1,423 vertical feet.
