Trail Overview
FS 2162A is a gentle, rolling two-track trail that runs from its intersection with FS 2399 to its southern intersection with FS 2162. This trail is full of rolling terrain as it navigates across the trail's mostly dirt surface. The trail has a couple of hillsides that can experience minor washouts after heavy rainfall. Rainfall can also lead to several small water spots developing in some of the trail's lower terrain. This trail is only wide enough for one vehicle in most places; however, there are some cleared trail sides that can be used for passing, or there are open areas located periodically throughout the trail that can be pulled off into for passing. The scenery around this trail is dominated by maturing trees and ferns growing on the forest floor. These can obstruct the views of some portions of the trail, but overall the sight lines on the trail are good. When navigating this trail, it is best to start this trail from its intersection with FS 2399, as traveling this direction allows you to get the best experience from FS 2399. Cell service in this area is very limited, so traveling with downloaded maps is recommended due to weak or no cell service.
Difficulty
This trail can be ridden by all experience levels. The trail's biggest obstacles are a couple of small mud holes, which are only present after heavy rain. These will typically be under 6-8 inches deep. The trail is only one vehicle wide for most of its length and will require vehicles to pull over or reverse to a larger clearing. Sight lines on the trail are generally good except for a couple of blind corners.
