Trail Overview
West Boundary is a 9.7-mile out-and-back route that follows a narrow shelf road through remote forested terrain. The trail is heavily overgrown for much of its length, with vegetation frequently encroaching into the roadway. Several dispersed campsites are located along the route, providing access to a quiet and secluded area of the forest. Brief sections of water damage add some variety to the drive, but the primary challenge is the increasingly narrow trail corridor. Those willing to tolerate the overgrowth are rewarded with impressive views from the upper portions of the route. The road ends at a tank trap just before a dispersed campsite. West Boundary is open year-round to highway-legal vehicles.
Difficulty
West Boundary is a generally easier trail featuring narrow shelf road sections and extensive brush encroachment. While there are a few significant obstacles, full-bodied vehicles should expect heavy pinstriping throughout much of the route. Brief sections of water damage may require additional attention, but the primary challenge is navigating the tight corridor while avoiding vehicle damage. The trail is not particularly technical, but the overgrowth can make it feel more demanding than the terrain alone would suggest. Drivers seeking pristine paint may want to avoid this route. As with most trails in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
