Trail Overview

This is a primitive dead-end logging road. There are a few pull-offs for day camping and quite a few spectacular views of Mount Rainier. Where the road dead-ends, it is dug out, so could be accessible by vehicles that have clearance or by ATVs/dirt bikes. The Grass Mountain hiking trail also crosses over where it dead-ends. When you first start on this road, the land around is owned by the Muckleshoot Tribe, so you cannot venture off the road. The land eventually turns into DNR land towards the top. There are about 3 washout areas that are dirt and large rocks, so be cautious in those areas. There are plenty of great views of Mount Rainier, and most of them have pull-out areas that would be great for photography and having a picnic! Once you are close to the top, the road will narrow and the brush and trees are very overgrown. Once you get to the end, it is wide and open and easy to turn around.

Not much snow left except near the top where the logging block is. Great views on the switchbacks

Snow drift blocks the trail around 3900 feet. Trail is clear up to that point. Very limited space to turn around, be prepared to reverse down.

I enjoyed the trail, like other reports I was stopped by a snow drift across the road. The road is rough and the winter has taken a toll on it in some places. I did need to use 4 wheel drive towards the end on the upper part before turning around.

Fun trail with some big loos rock. Like everyone said, there’s still snow up at the higher elevation.

Had to stop around 3400ft due to snow. The snow wasn’t too high but very slippery. Didn’t feel safe going solo. Otherwise super beautiful trail and easy with a 4x4

Trail was super easy, no obstacles up until about 3400ft and there’s a good chunk of snow that isn’t so much the snow we like.

Half a foot of fresh powder around 3000 feet made for great traction on the way uphill. Snow gets deeper after the shooting pit hairpin.

halfway up the trail is snow and pretty difficult to get through so I had to turn back since I'm running solo.

Trail open - made it about 5 miles in where snow was too deep for my vehicle/tires (2 feet deep, slushy snow). I’m triple diff locked - the open diff Tacoma behind me had trouble around 4.5 miles in.

Made it about half way up before the snow got higher than I’m comfortable driving in without a second rig. I didn’t measure but I was dragging so at least a foot. Very slippery when we got out to take some photos.

Headed up late afternoon. Road was wet and muddy for the first half. About half way in, we hit snow and followed up someone’s previous tracks. We turned around at about 5/8ths of the way. The snow was about 6” deep at that point. It was a great trip.
