Trail Overview

You will find FS70 outside Greenwater, heading east off of SR410. This road is paved for the first 10 miles. There are many camping spots along the way. When you reach the sno-park, the gravel will start. In the winter, the road stops here and is only accessible to snowmobiles. The gravel is easy, with a few areas of large potholes. There is a stretch about halfway in where the road gets a bit more primitive. You will come to some larger rocks and a few ruts. The gravel is mostly non-existent, replaced with silty dirt and rocks. There are plenty of beautiful views and lookout spots to stop along the trails. Once you cross over to the east side of Washington, you will notice that the gravel starts returning. The road is gravel until roughly the last 14 miles, then it turns to pavement again. There are plenty of camping spots along the Little Naches River. You will then end up on SR 410 just outside of Cliffdell. Be sure to swing by Whistling Jacks on your way home for fuel and/or ice cream!

Difficulty

Most of the road is easy going, some is paved and the rest is gravel and dirt. There are areas where there are some ruts and large softball sized rocks are poking out of the road. There are also some spots where there are some jagged rocks that are poking out of the road as well. There are areas of large potholes and washboard too. Just drive cautiously and pick you lines well.

Trail/road washed out. Too sketchy for our blood

This is a trail that I've been taking for about 30 years. This is a large landslide. Looks to be about 100, or more, feet long with maybe 4 feet of room to get by. Hopefully this will be fixed. It looked like, at least, one person in a full size vehicle attempted to ride the hillside past the slide. Very dangerous thing to attempt. Also, people need to slow down on the first roads. Someone in another vehicle came flying around a blind corner and almost ran into me. I had to slam on the brakes and put my vehicle into the bushes for the person to have enough room to get by without hitting us.

47.10294, -121.37464. As stated washout at these coordinates. Only 2 wheeled vichles should pass. Can see erosion cutting back under the road and other spots that may washout soon.

First 10 miles of pavement are scenic. About 8 miles onto the gravel is the washout.

I should have marked it, but I didn’t. Trail does not go through over the top to Greenwater, because of a washout a mile or two down from the top on the Cliffdell side. There was enough room to ride the adventure bike down, but I’d think even getting an ATV by would be pretty sketchy. OnX wouldn’t lest me post if my vehicle was a motorcycle.

Today I learned about GROUND CLEARANCE & Snow 😆 Got stuck, had to be winched out by David from Fred’s towing in Enumclaw. Will definitely be attempting again when the snow melts 💁🏻‍♂️

We took the Bronco up 70 today to see if it is open. And it is. We went up about 10 miles and took some side roads. Most of those ended with yellow closed gates. One had a nice berm we got to go up and down for a little thrill. Lots of rivers. Not many others. Some campers and an outdoor shooting range had a few people. There are no cliffs on this road that I saw which is great for me as I have a massive fear of heights. It was a fun trip. About 3 hours in and back.

Mostly icy. Towards the end on the right there’s a short trail with fresh show you can whip around in and a short n steep hill to play on. Coming back down there was a recovery happening with multiple vehicles stopped, that took up the entire road, which is where we found out how icy it really was. Go slow. Lots of vehicles out there, Saturday mid day.

Pyramid Pass was passable all the way from Easton to Naches as of Nov 8. Very few other vehicles. Snow wasn't bad at all yet.

Wet and washboard most of the way. About half way to the summit the snow comes. Not too deep but with half worn tires even aired down it was slippery (These AT4W suck in the snow) and I was alone. Turned around, but a few other teams went up.

Great trail to take to enjoy the mountains and cutoff the traffic to backside of MT.Rainer. Remember it opens July 16th to go all the way through to Naches/Whistline Jacks area and gas up in Yakima Costco and enjoy wine/beer in Yakima.
