Trail Overview
Rufus is a 4-mile-long easy ATV trail through the Little Pend Oreille Trail System. The east end starts on FS 2712, and it descends gradually for the entire 4 miles, dropping over 1,100 feet in elevation. The trail is very curvy, constantly meandering through the trees, with frequent sharp turns. It’s mostly smooth dirt with intermittent loose or embedded rock, small roots, and shallow ruts, but mostly it stays very easy. It remains wide throughout the route, but sometimes the brambles and bushes encroach into the trail, making it feel narrower, or blocking visibility around blind corners. The frequent small roots across the trail will make it a slower, bumpier ride for ATVs. The trail ends at the Rufus Trailhead on the west end.
Difficulty
This is an easy trail for all ride types because it is gradual, with no major rock obstacles or ledges. There are frequent small rocks and roots and tight curves, but it is family-friendly and ideal for less experienced riders.
